Have You been Washed? PART 1

3“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should work in newness of life. 5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6Knowing this that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Romans 6:3-6

This is a very critical and important topic that many Christians don’t know much about, but it is important enough to determine a person’s final destination. But before we go any further, let us ponder on the words of the hymn below:

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you washed in the blood,

In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?

Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you walking daily by the Saviour’s side?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you resting each moment in the Crucified?

Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

When the Bridegroom cometh, will your robes be white?

Pure and white in the blood of the Lamb?

Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright?

And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,

And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;

There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,

Oh, be washed in the blood of the Lamb.

Before any man or woman can say that he/she is born again, such an individual must have gone through God’s requirements for salvation as seen in the Bible. Without this, whatever confessions of salvation made by such an individual is just an empty and futile one. Many Christians unfortunately don’t see the need for baptism, they feel it doesn’t carry so much importance. But little do they know that baptism is not the requirement of any church, it is a command from God Himself. Without being baptised correctly, a person cannot stand justified before God.

Now there are two types of Christian Baptism; Water baptism and Holy Ghost baptism. Water Baptism is what we shall major on in this article and correct water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ erases any past sin that a person may ever have committed, and gives such an individual a fresh start before God (see Acts 2:38). Without this, a person will always have his/her sins before God and whenever the Devil (who is the accuser of the Brethren) reports such an individual to God, the person has no defence. Because of this, such an individual can never be under the protection that is found in the blood of Jesus Christ, and will always be open to attacks from the devil and his agents.

Must Water Baptism be by immersion? Is water baptism even necessary in the New Testament era? Did the apostles ever baptized anyone by immersion? In what name did they even baptize?
