Have You been Washed? PART 2

HAVE YOU BEEN WASHED? (The Series… Pt. 2)

The previous series left us with vital questions:

Must Water Baptism be by immersion? Is water baptism even necessary in the New Testament era? Did the apostles ever baptized anyone by immersion? In what name did they even baptize?

Jesus gave the command for people to be baptized as seen in Mathew 28:19 because the only righteousness acceptable to God is that of the Lord Jesus Christ, and anyone who comes before God in any form of righteousness other than that of Christ will just be wasting his time. Many people believe what they just need to do is to live a life of peace, to avoid confrontation with other people, to give to the poor and needy and to generally feel good about the kind of life they live. They go as far as believing that this will help them enter heaven when their time here on earth is done, but unknown to them, this will never be enough, because they are standing before God in their own righteousness, which God describes as a filthy rag:

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy

rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have

taken us away.” – Isaiah 64:6

The truth is that for God to have given the commandment for people to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ as seen in Acts 2:38 which is the correct interpretation of Matthew 28:19, He knew that there was no other way for man to stand justified before Him, and that was why that provision was made. The blood of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can wash away the sins of any man and make that man stand justified before God, and if any so called Christian has not been washed in that blood – the blood of Jesus Christ – such a person cannot say that He has a part in Christ.

It is very important to note that being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ comes after one must have repented else you are only going to the water a dry sinner to come out a wet sinner. So after repentance as often done in churches,

For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses

and is saved.” –Romans 10:10

While many Pentecostals rush out and shout at the top of their voices that they are now saved, some others are no different from a copy typist who type exactly what they see or are told to type and so they carry out Matthew 28:19 word for word.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in THE NAME of                       the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” – Matthew 28:19

Are the titles of Father, Son and the Holy Spirit – THE NAME? What is the name every believer is supposed to be baptized in?

But those who really want to know this God, they go deeper. They study to show themselves approved unto God, not unto man and when you study you are bound to find out that it is much deeper. Take a look at the account of Philip and the Ethiopia Eunuch in Acts 8:26-40

26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert.

27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship,

28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet.

29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: AND THEY WENT DOWN BOTH INTO THE WATER, both Philip and the eunuch; AND HE BAPTIZED HIM.

39 And when THEY WERE COME UP OUT OF THE WATER, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.

So the Ethiopian Eunuch followed Romans 10:10 as seen in Acts 8:37 above but Evangelist Philip took him further and He conducted water baptism for the Ethiopian Eunuch.

In the next series, there are still vital questions:

In what name did they even baptize? Why should I baptize in accordance to Acts 2:38? Can one re-baptize?
